Sandbox, on Tuesday announced the launch of its decentralized autonomous organization, naming it the Sandbox DAO. 

This new initiative is aiming at allowing SAND token holders and virtual LAND owners to participate in the platform’s governance by voting on projects and proposing improvements through Sandbox Improvement Proposals (SIPs).

The implementation will be divided in three phases, and it will enhance transparency and community involvement in the platform’s growth and ecosystem. 

This introduction is designed to foster trust and promote a sense of belonging among the members of the community, as it aims to being transparent about every decision and process.

This transparency will increase clarity and build a community which will be valued and considered.

Phases of Implementation

Out of the three phases of implementation, the first phase will begin on May 28. This phase will allow communities to vote on SIPs. However, most of the operations, including finance, reducing will be managed by the Sandbox staff.

The progress in phases will help gain more autonomy and become self-reliant, reducing the dependency on Sandbox staff.

The company believes that a gaming open metaverse must be governed by all users, including creators, players and LAND owners, to ensure its longevity and push the boundaries of the community.

It is one of the significant milestones in the journey of Sandbox to build an open metaverse together. It will empower the community to increase participation in the platform’s governance and growth.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Sandbox DAO will be composed of two critical groups: the Council and Advisors.

The Council will be responsible for reviewing SIPs, providing guidance on proposals, and, moreover, ensuring alignment with the DAO’s vision and community interests.

The Advisors will act as strategic advisors and cultural ambassadors, leveraging their expertise and networks to guide the DAO toward fulfilling its vision of a decentralized, vibrant metaverse.

A Sandbox DAO Foundation will be established to support the DAO’s operations. It will administer the decisions of the DAO and manage the complementary operations, including the treasury and employment of the DAO support team.

The first three eligible community members will be able to vote on foundational. It will grant the right for the DAO to exist and establish the budget for the year.

Two SIPs are currently live for voting, focusing on the positive impact that Sandbox can implement in the real world, such as carbon capture and other efforts with the Red Cross.
